This is my first post on what I hope is a helpful item for those whom I know and what some insight on how we are stretching our dollars, living light, but maintaining a functional lifestyle in Colorado Springs CO. We live on a substitute teacher's daily pay and a full time teacher's assistant hourly wage where 35% of the gross paycheck is consumed by health insurance contribution. Yet we eat fairly well, by necessity because of job and college student's needs we have high speed internet, possess only one free-and-clear 175,000 mile auto and rent a 3-bedroom 1050 square foot home. The house is home to two of our college-bound, living at home, young adult children and my wife and I. Needless to say we watch every coin and paper money and when we don't things can get out of hand quickly. Ultimately how we manage is that we seek to "pay never full price" and when we have to find ways to minimize it.
MEMORY IS CHEAPER THAN YOU THINK!
This week's discovery: Our daughter had purchased a nice $100 plus digital camera some time ago when it was on sale at Big Lots for $20.00 but had found at the time that the memory cards were out of reach of her budget so only could take two pictures at a time. Sure going on line and purchasing them for $6 to $10 bucks was available but there was still shipping. How about a Bargain Store in town, (we have four in fact), three under the banner Extreme Bargains, where one specializes in electronics, there I found a 4GB memory card for $6.00 minus 35% ($3.90) plus a 2B flash drive to replace the one stolen by one of my students for the same price. Sue found wrapping paper normally for $4.00 for $0.79. Small things but now the camera can take 1000 pictures and by the way we bought alkaline batteries for $0.33 apiece as well, pay never full price and you can get by these days!
